Distributed Energy Resources: Economics and Distributional Impacts
Scott Burger, PhD Candidate, Research Associate & MITei Energy Fellow, MIT Energy Initiative, speaks about how distributed energy resources (DERs) can create immense value by reducing power system costs and empowering consumers. However, if not deployed with care, DERs can drive billions in additional costs. When and where do DERs create value? How should we incentivize DER installation? Who should own DERs - utilities or private companies? This talk is based on research that leverages large empirical data sets of electricity consumption and demographics.
