On January 27, shortly after taking office, President Joe Biden issued an executive order launching the Justice40 Initiative, tasking his team with ensuring that 40% of benefits from federal climate action goes to disadvantaged communities. Dr. Shalanda Baker, appointed the previous week to the newly created position of Deputy Director for Energy Justice at the U.S. Department of Energy, is one of a number of senior appointees with the administration charged with carrying out this order.
